Below I show the exact tally of total dividends paid by STA over the past full 12 months, including the last one just announced -and to be paid on May 6th 2022. The total over the past full year hence comes to 5.90 Baht per share, which represents a 15.1% yield based on the price I have it in my model portfolio i.e. at 39. Realize, a tax favored yield as unlike interest on bank savings accounts, dividends in Thailand are taxed only at 10%, at the source with no filing required of any kind. Withholding taxes on Thai bank savings accounts can be more then 15% if you earn more than 20,000 Baht of Bank interest per year, as I recall.
For STGT the total dividends over the past 12 months come to 6.65 Baht, per share. If you divide this by 39.75 Baht (the price where I included it in my model) this comes to an annual yield of 16.7%. Hence the combined average yield is 15.9%, if you invested equal amounts in each. This has always been my stated investor case for STA/STGT: very high current yield along with some insurance should the Covit-19 drag on longer -or a new dangerous different strain coming on at some point. Many predict pandemics in the future are the new normal, but not really as humanity has always endured periodic pandemics over its long history and with 8 Bill. people in the world now (vs. 1 Bill, a century ago) its likely to be a chronic human condition in the future, perhaps more then the past.
Today both stocks have sold off and I can see the dividend yield dropping to a combined around 4-5% for this year, starting in May 2022. Still likely near double the average SET dividend yield. I fully realize both stocks have sold off considerably in mkt. price since -but for those investors which keep holding-on for high dividend income it still makes some sense. I stated often I like STA better and so re-affirm this today. Just now the Covit-19 horror is all but over (?) as other news takes over, glove prices have dropped and supply increased -but who know what the future holds, except its near certain the world needs more gloves (Africa/China/India) and at some point the glove glut will subside, not least if some Malaysian competitors are driven out of business due to the glut -not least soaring energy prices where STGT has the clear advantage, due to much lower use of Nat. Gas. Both STA/STGT are big cap stocks and leaders in the world. STA will benefit when the price of natural rubber increases at some point.
